Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay Technology This Season.

Wimbledon tennis court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in employing replay technology.

Video review systems will make its debut at Wimbledon this year.

Athletes are granted the right to contest particular decisions made by the official, mirroring the system already in operation at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.

This step comes just a season following the AELTC introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the umpire to review specific situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a point.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.

Case in Point

A recent case took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player initiated the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.

Other Changes

A further innovation at Wimbledon this year involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the tournament, organizers have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
