The DCU Series Second Season Finale to Fix Major Viewer Grievance, James Gunn Announces
While the reception for Peacemaker the latest season has been largely favorable, with fans and critics praising the acting and storyline—even if the big twist in the seventh installment didn't come as a surprise—one critique has intensified as the season continues: decreasing runtime lengths.
Over the past few episodes, viewers have expressed disappointment over the noticeably shorter runtimes in season 2, and indeed, the episodes have been progressively briefer. Episode 7, called “Like a Keith in the Night,” ran just 28 minutes (not counting the recap, opening credits, and end credits), making it the shortest episode so far.
Fans will be pleased to learn next week's episode is nearly an hour in length.
Peacemaker showrunner and DC Universe head Gunn posted via social media, responding to a viewer's concern.
Despite this news, it's unknown exactly how much of the runtime will be actual new footage, uncluttered by opening and ending sequences, or summaries of past episodes. However, even if the finale includes all the previously mentioned non-essential content, that still leaves roughly three-quarters of an hour for the finale, which is a big upgrade following the previous installment.
Gunn previously teased that the last episode would not only wrap up Peacemaker but also provide clues towards the direction the broader DC Universe at large will be moving and act as a kind of precursor for the next Superman movie. Considering the brief appearance of Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor from episode 6, fans expect a exciting guest appearance to cap off the show.
The show's finale, the eighth episode, is called "The Full Nelson," and we'll just have to wait to find out if fans' suspicions are confirmed.
