Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a major technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were halted due to an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

Officials had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the current status on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers are still being urged to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the hub as backlogs are managed.
