Google Plans Investment of $15bn for Constructing Artificial Intelligence Data Center in India

Computing Infrastructure
India ranks as a top choice for computing facilities because of its inexpensive data services and rapidly growing internet user base.

The parent firm of Google the Alphabet conglomerate is set to invest fifteen billion dollars for constructing an AI computing facility in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.

The infrastructure, that is planned in the port city of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a component of Google's international system of artificial intelligence hubs located in a dozen nations.

"It stands as the greatest AI hub that we are going to be investing in anywhere in the world, outside of the United States of America," Google Cloud's chief executive said at an event in capital Delhi this Tuesday, noting that the investment will be spread across the coming five years.

This declaration comes at a time American President Donald Trump has been encouraging companies from the United States to give priority to local funding.

The Expanding Position of India in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

India has become a key destination for AI data centers. India's inexpensive data services and rapidly growing online population have made it a center for cloud and AI expansion for major tech firms.

"The facility will bring our industry-leading technology to companies and individuals in the nation, accelerating AI innovation and promoting progress nationwide," stated Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

Project Details

A formal agreement to finalise the venture is scheduled for signing on Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government said.

"It is a major step forward for our state's technological advancement, progress, and worldwide position," said the minister for technology Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.

This initiative will integrate computing and artificial intelligence facilities with sustainable power solutions and an expanded fibre-optic network.

Andhra Pradesh's Data Center Vision

This initiative is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's blueprint to create 6GW of data centre capacity by 2029.

Data centres are tangible infrastructures that contain the computing and networking equipment that organizations use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.

They feature servers, memory systems and network equipment like network routers and security firewalls, along with the required energy and climate management infrastructure to operate them.

Funding Benefits

In Andhra Pradesh, the government has been offering subsidised land and energy to draw worldwide funders.

Market Development

India's data centre industry has expanded quickly in the recent half-decade, exceeding the 1GW capability milestone in 2024 and approximately tripling its capability from 2019.
